VANCOUVER -- Veteran defenceman Dan McGillis joined the Vancouver Canucks on a tryout basis Thursday.

The 35-year-old free agent spent last season with Lowell of the American Hockey League. McGillis has played for five different NHL teams and has recorded 56 goals and 182 assists for 238 points in 634 career regular-season games.

His last NHL action came with New Jersey in 2005-06, when he played 27 games.

Heading into their third pre-season game Thursday night against Edmonton, the Canucks were already missing three defenceman.
